Digging into Lightroom

Last year for Christmas my sweet husband gifted me a new computer and Lightroom.  I have always heard that Lr is a beast to learn and I was a bit apprehensive about getting into it.  For the past 5+ years I've used Photoshop for editing and have either managed (in the early years) by manually sorting my photos (GAH) or have used Picasa for sorting.  It's not a great system but it's gotten the job done well enough.  Well tomorrow I am shooting a very exciting styled shoot and I thought that since I had a few hours of down time I'd try and figure it out.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Now I'm knee deep in open tabs and tutorials and my head is spinning.  Please say a prayer for me.  I have finally found a trail of tutorials that are helping me get a grasp on the basics.  If you're in the same boat and aren't looking for video tutorials (I know everyone is obsessed with video but I'm not.  Am I the only one?) I'm find these extremely helpful.  So if you're out there just starting out with Lightroom I wish you good luck.  Hopefully you won't find me with my head in the oven.

(Yep, no pictures on this blog post.)

What a great day!

Guys I seriously just had the best day today!  (Ok, maybe not 'best' as in life altering or important days to remember for all times, but definitely a good one.)  I am an extroverted introvert (it's a real thing).  So that means that going out and meeting new people is WAY outside of my comfort zone.  Once I know you I'm totally cool and fabulous (I think).  But for a long time I've known that I NEED to leave my house (and sweatpants) and meet some other wedding professionals in our area.  I don't know what makes this such a hard thing to do but IT IS.  In my defense I do think that a lot of people in my industry (and others too I'm sure) have a serious dislike for 'networking'.  I love working with people and really enjoy meeting people...but it's hard yo.

So last week I gave myself a week's deadline.  Sarah and I had made a new friend at a bridal show we attended last week so I guess I was feeling brave.  I looked up some local vendors that I liked their work and seemed like a good fit for our business.  Then I emailed them (gulp).  I got some responses!
In preparation for my meetings I put together some small packets of information about my company.  Included was this little brag sheet.  I have to say seeing all of the things Sarah and I have accomplished written out felt GOOD.

Then I woke up early this morning, fluffed and buffed myself and headed out the door.  I left ridiculously early to make sure I got there in time to sit and get comfortable before my meeting arrived.  I'm glad I did because twice my bag strap broke as I was walking in.  Talk about embarassing.  Luckily I was there early and I was able to get my coffee and croissant and sit there in peace for a few minutes.  By the time my meeting arrived I was ready!

And you know what?  I loved it!  I had a great time talking with a vendor that I really loved that I think will be a GREAT partner for us in the future.  YES!

So the moral of this story is GO and DO and it will be OK!

Just a quick note....

I started a new job June 1st and it has certainly hampered by blogging!  Seems as if I have several things I'd like to do a blog about, but there just isn't enough time in the day!

As you all know I operate a side business with my good friend Sarah.  Our company, Creative Event Studio, recently launced a blog section on our site - make sure and add it to your Google Reader or favorite tab.  We certainly will be updating it more frequently than I tend to update this blog.

I am still going to be posting on here with my personal partying adventures, photography practice, home decor inspiration, and all the things that tickle my fancy - but you should still check out our CES blog!

Amateur Photography Hour

I'm trying to learn photography.  I'm just a beginner and I know NOTHING about it what so ever.  It is kind of scary to learn!  But I'm excited to learn a new skill set to be able to help out with the photography side of our business as we continue to grow.  {Official plug:  looking for photography or event design?  Check out Creative Event Studio!}  With the camera in hand and a semi-willing subject here are a few pictures of me learning photography....

Runners feet = gross

I really love this one.

I didn't take this last one (obviously, since I'm in the picture), but I love it!  (thanks babe!)

So what do you think of my pictures?  Wish me luck as I try and learn more in the coming days!

Heritage Hall Open House

MANY thanks to everyone who came out last night to the Heritage Hall Open House.  It was a really fun event with tons of great people.  Now we may be biased but we thought we totally rocked out the booth situation!  Here are some snap shots of our Creative Event Studio set up:

Like I said, we really rocked our booth.
